Best Practice in Urban Management
Preamble
Best practices are actions undertaken in partnership
between Governments, local authorities and civil society that have made a
lasting contribution to improving the quality of life in urban and rural
communities.
Good and best practices serve as a barometer for
assessing urban trends and conditions, and are a means of measuring programmes
being done in the implementation of commitments made under the Agenda 21 and the
UNCHS Habitat Agenda. The analysis of these practices also provides insight into
policy options and capacity building opportunities necessary to improve living
conditions of the people.
UCAZ
would therefore strive to assist its membership to implement best practice
initiatives so that Zimbabwe can win more international awards. UCAZ intends to
establish a resource center to meet the needs for practical information on best
practices, model programmes and innovations implemented by local governments in
Zimbabwe and elsewhere. In cooperation with ICLEI, UCAZ has coordinated the
preparation of the Global Urban Observatories Programme in Zimbabwe.
To encourage local authorities to adopt new innovative ideas to address various urban problems,
To promote the replication of initiatives and practices that will make a sustainable contribution towards improving the quality of life in urban communities through cooperation among government, the private sector and civil society.
To improve management system in urban councils to facilitate efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.
To encourage
members of the association to implement initiatives that will bring more awards
to Zimbabwe.
